Episode No. 7: How to Find Your Authenticity with Aubree-Anna
Featured Guest: Aubree-Anna
What does it mean to be authentic? Some people say being authentic simply means being real, genuine, and not fake. Yet, we live in a world that often demands that we become someone we are not or behave in a way that does not reflect who we really are. Is it possible to be inauthentic and real at the same time? This is certainly a topic that merits deep discussion and produces a wide variety of strong opinions.
So, to get the conversation started, in this episode, Steve Gallegos interviews Aubree-Anna, one of the most talented and celebrated singers and performers of our time. While Aubree-Anna may not yet have the household name recognition as perhaps Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, or Shania Twain, she is no less talented and deserving of such recognition. We recognize that not every talented performer aspires to have their name displayed across the media, for to do so, in many cases results in the loss of authenticity. As Aubree-Anna points out she began her career at an early age singing the type of music others wanted her to perform, based n their own perception of who they thought she was, or who they wanted her to be. In other words, she was in a world which welcomes who you are, as long as you are what they want you to be.
Yet, she found the courage to stay true to herself, and with the guidance of her husband and manager Henry, her love and desire to protect her children, and her deep faith in God, Aubree-Anna has built a highly successful career as a singer-songwriter, performer, and actor, with no shortage of work, at a time when many other performers are seeing their own lights fade away. Join us as we get to know Aubree-Anna and follow her journey from being put up for adoption at birth, to becoming one of the most celebrated voices of our time.
About Aubree-Anna:
Born in San Antonio, TX, and immediately placed in a foster home where she was given the name Elizabeth, she was adopted 17 days later by Lt. Colonel Steve Wilson (USAF Ret.), and Mary Lynne Wilson. It happened that Mary Lynne, a passionate and vibrant personality who was also a concert pianist and schoolteacher, had previously nearly died giving birth to her son. Given only one year to live after the birth of that son, she had dreamed of having a baby girl with long brown curly hair. Defying the medical odds, Mary Lynne stayed very much alive, and when she first laid eyes on baby Elizabeth, Mary Lynne knew this was a dream come true. Inspired by the song “Aubrey” made popular in the ’70s by the group “Bread,” baby Elizabeth became Aubree-Anna.
Because she grew up in a musical home, Aubree-Anna learned to sing, to play the piano, and developed a keen sense of pitch which she credits to her mother’s playing. From an early age, she knew that the only thing in the world she wanted to do was to sing and perform, and this is the foundation for a decades-long career that has enabled her to perform in front of worldwide audiences and to receive numerous awards and accolades for her performances as a jazz and country singer-songwriter. Because of her talents, Aubree-Anna is also cast as the supporting female lead in the film “Valley of Bones” (in production), which centers on bringing awareness to the plight of women who are trapped in the sex trafficking trade.
But perhaps her crowning achievement and what she is most proud of is her marriage to her husband Henry, and their 3 children, Gabriela, Nigel, and Khalil.
